I’m a father of two teenage girls and I know how difficult it is to get them to spend family time with my wife and I. There are certain activities that will get them definitely interested in spending time with us. These include vacation, vacation, and more vacation.
I know it sounds bad but when you’re trying your best to raise two teenage girls (hardest part of being a parent, I swear), especially as a dad, they don’t really talk to you very much. The only time they’ll give me is when they’re forced to spend time with me. This basically only happens during vacation when the whole family is together. Otherwise, they’ll go to their mom for any advice or information they need.
When we go to on vacation, it is usually somewhere tropical and warm where we can just lay on the beach and do some water sports. My younger daughter loves sports and that’s one way that we spend time together. We’ll go water skiing or jet skiing for the day. And then she usually ditches me for her sister or new friends they’ve made. Hey, I’ll take what I can get!
It’s a bit harder to spend time with my older daughter. She’s currently in her rebellious phase, where she does everything the opposite of what my wife and I say. Sometimes it’s easier to just let her do what she wants instead of arguing.
The best times we have spend as a family is going on excursions. Typically the resort will bus us somewhere and we’ll do a fun activity like climb a waterfall or go on a party boat. During these times, we’ll laugh as a family and have tons of fun!
